Trifextra - Week Eight: Lost

Trifecta's 33 word story challenge this week:

This weekend's challenge is to write a story entitled 'Lost' in exactly 33 words. The word 'lost' can only appear in the title, not your 33 words.

My entry:

According to her pedometer, Melanie trekked five miles into the forest. She knew the park entrance was in the south west. The compass spun wildly like caught in a whirlpool as night descended.

    1. I'm not sure yet. I don't even know why she's in there in the first place!

    1. Thanks. The idea of "lost" is, I think, one of the scariest sensations.

    1. Thanks! I was hoping it would be a little nerve wrecking.

  5. Not bad. Not bad at all. Does it have to be 33 words exactly? Because getting it exactly right is tough. (yes, I counted the words)

    1. Yup. Exactly 33. Very tricky. You have to be very precise with word choice.

  6. Stay put Melanie! Do NOT try to get out in darkness.

Also, I'm dying to know what the summer of the lobster is.

    1. I'll have to figure out whether she does or not.

The Summer of the Lobster is a trip my girls and I planning to eat as much lobster as we can as we wander about the North East - mostly Maine - but the whole of New England is up for grabs!

  8. Oh no! This freaks me out. I got lost in the woods when I was running once. Scared me to death and I didn't even have a compass to spin wildly. I also like your imagery of it spinning like it was caught in a whirlpool.

    1. I've been lost in a store before but never the woods. But I go camping a lot so I can see how it could happen and freak me out. Step off the path for just a bit and all of a sudden you get swallowed up by the woods!

  9. My hubby and I used to live in a forest. One day we heard faint cries for help. We biked back and "rescued" two young men who got lost on the back of our property. The inside joke cracks us up to this day. Loved your post!

    1. I would love to live in a forest. Except for my slight fear of Bigfoot, that is! Thanks for the positive feedback!

  10. Thanks for linking up to Trifecta this weekend. You definitely got the lump in my throat. I've been lost (though not too lost) in a forest before. The panic that threatens to rise up is a hard feeling to ignore. Water, food, shelter, animals, ugh. I've watched Blair Witch too many times, I think. Hope to see you back on Monday.

    1. Let's not ever bring up the Blair Witch Project again. Okay? I'm still having nightmares about it! And that shaky camera style of filming left me nauseous for hours!

Thank you for you feedback. I really love the 33 word challenges!
