Photo A Day - In My Bag

I hate carrying a purse. They fall off my shoulder, they get in the way, I have to monitor where it is all the time when I'm out. It's a pain.

I used to just carry a tiny little wallet in my back pocket but then life happened and all of a sudden I needed to carry pens, loose change, inhalers and receipts. I'm not entirely sure when this happened...maybe once I landed a full time job and needed to look slightly more professional. Of course, that implies that I looked professional to begin with and let me tell you...no. Even when I am dressed for an interview I still just feel like a little kid playing dress up.

Anyway, I typically dump my purse out once a week and clean all the clutter out. The receipts and shopping lists get tossed, the change gets put into a jar, the numerous pens and pencils get whittled down to one of each and my purse is once again clean and tidy.

Interesting factoid: Once I had taken this photograph I put everything back into my purse because it isn't purse cleaning day.

Interesting factoid: Once I almost got a bigger purse but changed my mind in the checkout lane at Target because I knew that a bigger purse meant more clutter and mess.

Interesting factoid: I apply the same logic I use with a reusable shopping bag to my purse - if it doesn't fit, I don't need it. This is why I often only bring in one bag when I have to go to Target because otherwise I'll end up with a zillion things for which I have no need.

  1. I used to clutter my purse...now my husband does. I'll open it to get something and there will be things he's just stuffed in there because he doesn't want to put them in his pockets and forgets them! I clean my purse out usually at the end of the week or when it gets too unwieldy. I actually downgraded my purse from large to small when I became more invested in decluttering my life.

    1. I'm glad my husband doesn't try that! I've already got enough clutter in there! I find having a smaller purse is the best for me: small enough that I don't feel overburdened but large enough to hold a handful or so of junk that I probably don't really, really need.

    1. Those little baubles are actually cell phone charms from Japan that my friend Sara gave me. Unfortunately, my cell phone, being ancient, doesn't have a little loop or catch to attach them to so I looped them around my purse. One is a bell that jingles with each step.

  3. I love that you put everything back because it wasn't purse cleaning day! That is awesome. I fill up my purses too, but unfortunately that doesn't stop me from buying bigger ones. I've tried your method of only bringing one bag into a store, but I just end up staggering around the store trying to hold my excess purchases in my arms.

I really like your blog! I'm not usually into photography blogs, but your writing is very entertaining. I've signed up for more :)

    1. To be fair, I'm not really a photograph blog. I mean, yes, I use photographs but not all the time. I just happen to be doing a photo a day challenge because November wasn't crazy enough for me. :)

That being said, thank you so much for visiting and sticking around! I'm glad you like it!

Also, I've done that staggering out of the store because I stubbornly refused to bring in more bags. I feel so silly when I do so!

  5. I notice this started with talk of only carrying a wallet but didn't come back to talk of cleaning out the wallet itself. I respect the cleaning of the purse, but there has to be some detritus in that wallet too.

    1. Oddly enough I never really clean out my wallet. I don't put anything in there except my assortment of cards (library, debit, Barnes & Noble, etc) and maybe some cash when I have it. Everything else gets shoved in the purse itself. Now my husband on the other hand really needs to clean out his wallet because he can barely close it with all the little scraps of paper shoved in there.
