Friday Photos

We've had a lot of rain this week which puts a damper on going out and taking awesome photographs of wicked coolness. Plus, being in a blech mood puts a kink in my get-up-and-go plans. So, forgive me if I post some photos I took awhile ago. I posted a couple of these on my Facebook when I first took them, but it has been quite a while so...maybe those that have seen them will have forgotten. Of course I just reminded them...

Sigh.

It's been a week, what else can I say?

I love going to museums and botanical gardens. I am lucky that where I live there are no shortages of either. The following photos are from The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens. Nestled right along the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, the Cummer was once the home of Arthur and Ninah Cummer. When she died she left her home and her extensive art collection to the city and requested that they turn the house into a museum. House is probably and understatement. Indeed The Cummer is a small mansion. Rooms spill into rooms and the formal gardens are sigh worthy.

Unfortunately, like many museums photography inside is not allowed so all of these are from the gardens.

  1. Beautiful! I especially love what looks like a little boy kneeling in the ivy!

    1. That's a favorite of mine. A wider shot reveals that he is completely surrounded by ivy underneath a live oak.

    1. When I have a "real" garden (whatever that means) I want an archway like that! It reminds me of The Secret Garden - one of my favorite books as a kid.

    2. That's what I thought of too! I read that book so much it fell apart, then I cried.

  3. So beautiful, but I can't stop laughing about the name. "Hey hon, wanna go to cummer?" "Is that some code for asking me if I want sex?" "Maybe."

    1. I know. Usually I say, "Let's go to the museum" instead of calling it by name! :)

  4. If I were Arthur Cummer, when I married Nina, I would have taken her last name. Even if her last name was Dogfart, it had to be better than Cummer.
Now we know where your avatar comes from. Beautiful pictures.

    1. I tried getting Scott to take my last name since his is a fairly common one, but no sale! I imagine that many men feel the same. So sad.

    1. It is a great garden to wander in. I really love formal gardens. They are so...19th century and as that's the century I'm convinced I belong in I really want my own!

  6. When I die, I want my house to become a museum too. But it would be a sad, messy museum where people ate Cheetos and watched tv. You're welcome, New Jersey.

I love the fountain pics. So awesome and creepy. Reminds me of the Stephen King mini-series "Rose Red".

    Hugs!

    1. New Jersey could benefit from any museums so...I think it's a plan. Besides, think about it - when you go, your house will be a "reflection of life in the early 21st century" and will probably become an instant success!

    1. Thanks. If I am remembering correctly, the bow lady is Diana of the Hunt.
