Back in high school one of my favorite cartoons was
Animaniacs. Who am I kidding? It still is one of my favorite cartoons. So much
so that I’ve introduced it to my daughters who also now love it! I love the pop
culture references, the hijinks, the pure unadulterated chaos caused by the
Warner Brothers and the Warner Sister. It is a show that is entertaining and
intelligent, introducing kids to concepts like the theory of relativity, our
small place in the universe, and thematic movies like the Godfather.
And of course most of these concepts were introduced by
song. Best way to learn, right? Give a shout out if you can remember the
Preamble because of School House Rocks! Seriously, Friends, the only reason I
know all the state capitals is because of Animaniacs.
But by far my favorite part of the Animaniacs was Pinky and
The Brain. They must have been popular because they landed themselves a short
lived spin off. I giggled uncontrollably every time Pinky screwed up or “narffed”
and I loved it when he would exclaim, “Egad,
Brain!” marveling at Brain’s plans for world domination.
This might just be the oldest word on my list. I’m not 100
percent sure though as I still have a few words left to pick.
Egad is an
interjection dating from the late 1600s used to express shock or surprise.
Example: Egad,
Evelyn! Every earthworm we’ve enjoyed exposing to excrement enthusiastically
endures endless episodes of Entourage, Eureka,
and as expected, Ed, Edd, ‘n Eddie.

DeleteThat's one of the reason why I love Animaniacs so much!
Thanks for stopping by.
Ahhh yes, Pinky and The Brain. One of my all time favorites.
ReplyDelete"What are we going to do tonight?"
"The same thing we do every night Pinkie. Try to take over the world!"
Every time I ask my husband what he wants to do, that is the reply I get. It never fails to make me smile...except when I need a serious answer from him!
DeleteEgad and gadzooks!
ReplyDeleteIf I hadn't already picked my G word, I'd make it Gadzooks!!
DeleteEgad very very enjoyable

Egad - I'm sure I've heard it in the plural as well - Egads.
ReplyDeleteEgad, everyone loves to say, as I've seen commented. Should be used more often! Good Post!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! :) Happy E day!

Oh my god, I loved the episode of Pinky and the Brain where Brain made himself a giant pair of fake legs so he could drive a car and then got pulled over because of course he did.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite (aside fro all of them!) is when Brain dresses up as the country singer, Bo Bubba Bo-Bob Brain! And I love the medieval episode. Charlie Sheen, Ben Vereen! Shrink to the size of a lima bean!
DeleteThis just keeps getting better
ReplyDeleteThanks you! I'm trying to keep them entertaining!
DeleteHi again, #584! Egad, we're already on E. And I loved your cartoon post. Lots of fun.

Pinky and The Brain - who could not love that! I remember it well!! Great E day post!!
ReplyDeletePopping in to share the A to Z love. I love that word Egad. I often use it and hear it often if watching British programmes. I confess to having never seen Animaniacs but it sure looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, 1600's! That's crazy to think that a word used in a modern cartoon was also used 400 years ago! Pretty fascinating.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love Pinky and the Brain. Makes me want to watch it :)

ReplyDeleteI wish this cartoon were on for my nephew. One of the best ever!! Thanks for the memories!
ReplyDeleteI've started collecting the DVDs because I want my girls to have exposure to good cartoons!
DeleteMy mom never understood how I learned the Preamble! I always tried to tell her that it was a song but she never saw it. All she heard was me singing it for practice since a test we had was to sing it in our Social Studies class in fifth grade. I kind of want to re-learn it, just to annoy people with it. haha
ReplyDeleteIt's also the way I memorized the multiplication table! The history teacher I worked with when I taught makes her kids learn the song! It is a hoot watching a bunch of 8th graders walking the halls singing the Preamble!
DeleteMy husband loves to say that line about taking over the world. The funny thing is I think we've seen the actual show maybe twice?
