I Made It Monday

I've decided that I will take a break from my "I Made It Monday" series. I find that the summer is not a time I am very focused on crafting and while I have a few projects I am working on right now, they are intended as gifts and as such, I will not post them here until after they have been, you know, gifted. "I Made It Monday" will return in late August or early September.

I am thinking however on doing a Strange Florida Saturday...so many day trips to so many odd places in this creepy state!

I don't want to leave you without any photos though, so here is one of a scarlet ibis I took at the zoo. Scarlet ibises freak me right the heck out because 1) look at that eye! Can you not hear the ibis' thoughts? "Just one little step closer and I can jam my beak straight through her eye! 2) They are far too flashy. Kind of egotistical if you ask me (and as a Leo I totally know all about being egotistical). 3) I once got into a near shouting match with my 9th grade English teacher because of the short story "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst. I held the older brother accountable for killing Doodle and the teacher disagreed. Really?

      It would. It really, really would. That's why I don't trust any animal that has a bigger mouth than its head.

    The scarlet coloring is to distract you while it eats your brain with that scary beak. Birds terrify me almost as much as spiders.

      I don't know...anything with unnatural coloring tends to freak me out! I wouldn't be distracted so much as warned and then I'd be running!

    I didn't know they came in that colour - pretty amazing but yes, their beaks look deadly!

      Isn't it sad that birds and other animals get the flashy colors? Why can't people come in purple or magenta or green? How cool would that be?

    I can't tell if I love that thing or hate it.

    I definitely love the color but hate how big its feet and beak are.

      Thanks! I really love taking photos of birds...well actually anything...at the zoo! Everything is so darn photogenic. Except maybe the giant anteater. I have yet to get a good photo of him!

    Oh... He's TOTALLY planning the downfall of society. I mean, LOOK AT THAT BEAK!!! Looks more like a prison shiv to me...

    I had basically the same argument with She Who Shall Not Be Named after reading that short story. It's too bad we weren't in that class together. She taught me so much about being a teacher...mostly what not to do. :-)

      That class nearly killed me. She was really ripe with ego and always looking down on us. Grr. It must have thrown her into a tizzy to rehash that argument!!
