Until I became obsessed with the Apocalypse, I never gave gardening much thought. My dad grew a huge garden every year and I can remember times when I helped weed, sow and pick. My mother had beds of flowers and pots of plants but I still didn't pay much attention.
Now, I am borderline obsessed with my little haphazard garden. I've got a stockpile of mason jars and I'm ready to can as soon as more veggies grow. This year was my practice garden. I recycled milk crates and bought cheap pots at Wal-Mart. I broke apart an old bed frame that I knew I wasn't going to use again to build makeshift trellises for my cucumbers and peas.
I am ridiculously proud of the fact that I put seeds in some dirt and now I am starting to get to vegetables to feed my family.

a mix of jalapeno and bell peppers |

crazy color carrots. |

my favorite herb - basil. and the only one I planted. |

tiny tomato blossoms |
I have been looking for jalapeno seeds so I can grow my own here in Manila. So far, nada.
ReplyDeleteYour little garden looks well-kept. Now, do you have any weapons and first-aid supplies for the pending apocalypse? lol
I don't have weapons as of yet...but I have a dog...that's afraid of everything. Plus, I have a tire iron. But I do have a box of band-aids and a bottle of hydrogen peroxide so I am ready to go!
DeleteIn all honesty, I am working on building up supplies. The financial reality however prevents me for doing too much at once. I suspect the apocalypse won't happen for a while, but it never hurts to prepare! :)
Cool and interesting.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It has been fun getting things to grow!
DeleteLovely. But why aren't they planted in the ground? I like your use of things like the bed frame.
ReplyDeleteWe only rent right now and although our landlord is totally cool with us putting in a garden, I was hesitant to do so without experimenting first to see if I could even get things to grow. Plus, the soil in Florida isn't really soil so much as sand... so I want to do raised beds with good soil and compost. Hopefully, I will have the supplies I need to build some nice beds soon.
DeleteWhat a wonderful garden. I wish we were as far along as you. It's only been the last week that the leaves even came out on the trees.
ReplyDeleteThat's what you get for deciding to be a farmer in the great white north!! Down here in sunny Florida it's been super awes-
Delete-who am I kidding?? I hate the heat!! I'd take Alaska any day over Florida!!
I always wanted a garden, and to grow things.
ReplyDeleteI'm useless at doing chores around the flat, but I think I'd be good at making things to eat. If your plants start going missing, it might be because I'm stealing them.
That would be quite a commute just to steal some veggies!
