Pi Day. Humbug!

You might have guessed from previous posts that I like to celebrate things. After February - which is really the crappiest month ever created - March offers a multitude of things to celebrate: the Irish, women, Spring, and of course, the geekiest of holidays, Pi Day.

Normally, I don't remember Pi Day until the last minute and by then I didn't have time to plan anything what with work and all. But now as I am domestic goddess, I actually planned a minor celebration. Okay, really it was just dinner and dessert, but lately getting dinner made has become an epic chore.

Everything was Pi - err... pie. Pie for dinner, pie for dessert. I spent the day baking and cooking.

Shepherd's Pie for dinner.
Okay, so the shepherd's pie isn't in a pie plate and therefore not technically round, but I doubled the recipe and went with a casserole dish instead. Just pretend it's round.

Never one to do things in moderation, I ended up with three different dessert pies.
My favorite pie of all time - Grasshopper Pie!
When I was little I would spend my summers up in Maine with my dad. On the way back home, without fail we would stop at a tiny little restaurant called McLean's for lunch. I would get a lobster roll or clam boat and for dessert, grasshopper pie. I'm fairly certain their pie was a non-alcoholic version. Mine? Full on alcohol! So. Very. Yummy.

Apple on the left, blueberry on the right.
I'm not a fruit pie maker. Pastry is something I have not yet mastered. So knowing that Ashleigh really wanted some form of fruit pie, I ran to the store and bought them. Yes. I cheated. But I did put them in the oven and bake them and that's not nothing!

Such pretty pie. So ooey and gooey.
Hey! Wait a second? Did I tell you that I had THREE types of pies? I did? Crap.

See, here's the thing. The grasshopper pie is a frozen pie. After dinner, Cyra, bursting with pie-joy, ran to the freezer to help me get the pie. As I was pulling it out, she closed the door. On my hand. That was still in the freezer. And so the predictable happened.

And that was my favorite pie plate too.
Happy Freaking Pie Day.

  1. My sobriety birthday is Pi day. I'm such a nerd that sometimes I think I subconsciously did that on purpose.

  2. :( poor pie plate - and poor grasshopper pie! I really wanted to make pies for today too, but there was that whole going to Orlando for Geordie's interview thing. No time for pie. So we ordered a pizza pie for dinner. Still counts, right?

    1. Absolutely pizza counts. It's totally pie shaped. Hope the interview went well!

  3. NO! Pie travesty. Cyra has to make it up by baking a new one, right? Or at least pedaling down to the store to buy a replacement? Happy Pi Day to all!

    1. I sort of yelled at her. A lot. So I think we'll call it even on this one.

    1. It was fun. I got to do something I love - spend the day in the kitchen making faboo food - and despite the pie mishap (which after today, shall never be spoken of again) dinner and dessert were both delicious!
